CALAYOMI SCHOOL

About 1875 Callayomi School District was formed from a part of the Middletown School District. The school was four miles west of Middletown, on the south side of Putah Creek. (at the turnoff to Anderson Springs) In 1881 the school had 34 pupils, but usually averaged fifteen to twenty. When the tariff on quicksilver was removed, the mines closed down and many families moved away from the area and by 1921-22 there were only 4 pupils, so the school closed after that year. In 1925 the district united with the Middletown School District.
